I started out using the default GoDaddy blog software and it was decent. Eventually my blog got popular enough that I wanted a more professional image. After researching many different blog platforms, it became clear that Wordpress was the way to go. The hosted version at Wordpress.com is easy and free. Eventually I started working with more technical people that helped me move to the Open source version. But both are great.

The one drawback is that you can't put ads on your wordpress.com blog, but otherwise it is far easier, more attractive and keeps stats (as compared to a Blogger blog).
It's simple to hack a wordpress site. If you are using it for simple stuff that doesn't matter, it's a great blogging tool and a simple website creation method. If you do use it, do some research how to best secure the app once it's installed. I have obtained many clients because the previous person they were working with didn't take the time to secure their wordpress install. Even after taking all the security measures you can, it's still possible to hack just about any wordpress site.
I recommend this site to anyone who needs a website but can't afford a custom design or doesn't want the hassle of a self-hosted blog. Bonus: when you outgrow it, it's easy to export your posts into Wordpress Self-Hosted, which is one of the most powerful CMS platforms on the planet.
